The underground city in Montreal is one of the largest
in the world. Because of the weather in this area, the
underground paths are being used as streets, and the
metro system is an integral part of it.
Each metro station in Montreal was planned and
designed by different architects, and each building
above the ground was obviously planned by different
teams, and each of them have different style and
different way of thinking.
The fact that many of the buildings are connected
to the underground city makes the experience of
passing from street level to metro level quiet irregular.
We are used to buildings which were planned with the
same ideas from foundations to the rooftop, and we
know we are entering a building or leaving one when
we see the street. In Montreal we move from building
to building without notice, without doors, but the
difference between the buildings is still there.
