As part of the Azrieli Global Studio program, we flew to Schefferville, an isolated mining town in northern Canada, right on the arctic border.
While asked to find architectural solutions for living in extreme environments, we found out that it has been very long since the people of Schefferville adapted to the western culture and they managed to get everything they needed to build an American town, with SUVs parked next to large wooden houses, and a supermarket with a rich variety of snacks.
So if the people of Schefferville are not struggling for a shelter in the middle of a cold desert, they should start developing their towns cultural aspect, and build a winter-sports center on top of a frozen lake, with an event hall, spa and snowmobile ice racing track:
